Despite the high volume of discussions and chats, 50% of users answer Microsoft Teams chats in five minutes or less on an average, a response time that has remained constant over the past year. The rigor of our workweek and the demands placed on employees during this time have dramatically grown. It makes sense that 41% of workers worldwide are considering giving notice, according to the same report.

In the past year, 75% of workers in the workforce have gone through three or more significant changes, according to Notion Consulting’s 2022 Change Report. A new leader or management was mentioned by 65% of respondents, followed by new processes and procedures by another 65%, new technology by 50%, and new products, markets, mergers, reorganizations, layoffs, or a new workplace by at least a quarter. Here are five steps to help organizations successfully implement workplace transformation in the wake of the pandemic:

Identify various models of the workplace.

Gensler’s research indicates that over half of workers prefer a hybrid model of working from the office and home throughout the average workweek. The hybrid workplace strategy is currently the leading option. Companies are incorporating in-person and remote work aspects that best support their particular goals and encourage higher employee engagement and productivity by drawing on the lessons acquired during the pandemic.

Pick the appropriate technologies to support a hybrid workplace.

The Gensler study indicated that “working in person with team/colleagues” was uniformly identified as the #1 reason people desire to be in the office across all six nations they studied. The proper workplace technology is crucial for supporting a dynamic workforce. Employees also listed socializing with coworkers, belonging to the community, and chance encounters with strangers as elements. Employees need to be able to find one another to collaborate when businesses implement a hybrid working and integrate mobile, assigned, and hoteling individuals on the same floor layout. Employees may effortlessly discover people, places, or conference rooms using wayfinding applications on their preferred devices. Regarding desk reservations, QR codes serve as an excellent visual cue for staff members to check in at their desks when they arrive at work.

Plan and coordinate cleaning routine

Corporations focus on inclusive wellness initiatives to help their teams and families, including cleanliness, health, and mindfulness practices. Physical and obvious cleaning routines are the new norm in the office, where shared and multipurpose rooms may be the norm.

We will still feel the effects of the pandemic as we go into the endemic stages and offices reopen, along with new behaviors and hygiene standards. Along with the sanitizing wipes and hand sanitizers, pandemic factors like air purification, routine cleaning, and disinfecting plans and policies are still in place. While some customers take the initiative to clean as they go on their own, cleaning services are still essential to the overall strategy.

Give organizational change top priority

Never place an unaltered individual in a changing environment. This problem can be resolved by a workplace communication or change management program. Clear and regular communications regarding new protocols, space allocation, technological advancements, and COVID-related requirements can assist in aligning office, and organizational expectations as staff members return to the office. When it’s time to go back to work, it’s a great time to establish office procedures and define work practices. Many companies are implementing space-sharing techniques, clean desk regulations, and more deliberate social event planning to increase attendance once they return to the office. Signage and wayfinding graphics can explain and amplify new procedures and convey a welcoming message to returning staff.

Don’t over optimise

Blind optimism is a common trait among leaders, but it doesn’t always work out well for them, their team members, or the change itself. Ignoring human suffering can lead to dissent and rebellion. It’s difficult for leaders to trust, yet it’s the key to success in the future. Recognize workers’ everyday struggles, such as running out of petrol or an aging parent who needs assistance. Establish opportunities for interactions between leaders and employees to develop the kind of bonds that encourage loyalty and trust. Establish the knowledge, tools, and training that employees will require to succeed. Don’t presume a worker will “get it” on their own without help. That merely causes demotivation and, in the end, disengagement.
