Tips for creating a healthy workplace

It is important to maintain a healthy work environment to retain employees’ morale and enhance productivity and well-being. Fortunately, you don’t have to spend much time and money to improve the workplace environment. To begin with, you need to focus on some of the contributing factors that can help you to maintain a healthy workplace environment; physical environment, office culture, employee wellness, and support. Keeping such things in mind, we have developed a few tips for creating a healthy workplace environment.

Reward and recognize

Recognizing the top-performing employees and giving them appropriate rewards will keep the spirit up within the team. Rewarding the employees may include saying ‘thank you’ to them or some grander gesture like sponsoring them a trip or giving extra holidays. Reminding the team of their value in the company will retain them for a longer duration in the company.

Good communication

Keeping good communication between the employer and employee will create a healthy environment in the company. It is hard to avoid personality clashes; however, they don’t need to be negative. It is normal to have confrontation and conflict in a company. Such things bring different innovations and opinions. If a team can manage disputes and communicates openly, they will surely thrive.

Promote wellness

Most companies overlook wellness. But it has been found that 70% of employees would be interested in workplace wellness programs if their companies conducted them. Such wellness programs include both physical and mental health programs. Hence to emphasize wellness, companies should promote exercise, for instance, through the walking club during lunch. For mental health, they can promote mini breaks or reduced workloads.

Clean and comfortable office

The physical space of the office also matters a lot. Research has shown that a good office design can keep employees upto 33% happier. Ensure that your office has ample natural light, comfortable furniture, and space. You can use creative paintings on the wall to brighten the office space.

Encouraging stronger teams

Through team-building activities, you can make a strong bond with your employees. Often resources work independently as per their job roles. Still, team-building activities can result in positive interactions among team members and across other teams, thus helping companies together build a better workplace environment. Along with enhancing the communication between team members, team building also helps build the bond between professionals of the same capacity. Making friends in the workplace is very important as it helps resources to enjoy their work life.

Encourage employees to take a break at regular intervals

It is beneficial for employees to take short breaks instead of long ones. It is especially needed for employees who work in front of computer screens for long hours. Encourage your employees to take in some fresh air, or have tea or coffee. That will increase the productivity and creativity of employees. You must ensure that your employees have one break in the morning and one in the afternoon to maintain a healthy environment in the workplace.

Supportive environment

There may be a time when any of your employees undergo a stressful situation and come to the office with the same feeling. Never ignore such a situation; being a good employer, you must support your resources in such a condition. Supporting doesn’t mean you need to sit with him for the whole day; you can even drop a mail regarding that and let the employee know that the company is with him in such a difficult situation. Always remember that a supportive workplace will help to create a healthy workplace environment.

Provide health screening at work

Inviting healthcare professionals to your workplace will reduce the health-related cost for employees and give them a feeling of being cared for. However, it is an overwhelming task that can’t be conducted overnight. But it would help if you implement this cultural shift in your organization. Such ideas can increase the satisfaction level of employees.
